Re: Finished my arrows for the 2023 season

I make 'em to use, fellers. Life is too short to shoot ugly arrows!

Happy holidays from the Haverstick!

https://i.imgur.com/ae93aql.jpg For almost 30 years, I have been writing our family holiday newsletter and sending it out to a bazillion of our closest friends. When I first started, it was dispersed via USPS, a very expensive and time-consuming job. As years went by, and we all became connected el...

Re: Put a little meat in the freezer last Friday

Kirk, red balau is an Indonesian hardwood that is quite dense. I'm able to go down in shaft diameter, 11/32 to 5/16, but still keep my weight up. Most of Kevin Forrester's shaft offerings have such a tight grain that you don't have to worry about nock orientation, unlike every softwood I've ever use...

Put a little meat in the freezer last Friday

I took last Friday off for an extended weekend of bowhunting at my farm in south-central Missouri. The mast crop there is very poor this year due to some late freezes so I knew I would have to hunt field edges in order to see anything. I hate doing that because it's like playing a giant game of Whac...

Never too old to get 'er done!

https://i.imgur.com/AXLnolD.jpg My dear friend, John Pruitt, killed this nice buck two evenings ago off his place in Tennessee with a bow and arrow that he made last Thursday. The hickory used in both pieces of equipment came off his farm. I own several selfbows and flintlocks that John has made fo...

Re: Flintlock fall turkey

Our fall season runs the entire month of October. You can kill two birds of either sex.

I hunted this evening with a flintlock and had a nice buck and a doe walk by me within bow range while my longbow safely hung on its rack at the house. Never even heard the turkeys. Go figure?

Re: Flintlock fall turkey

Kirk, I heard the birds fly up last night in the same place. Probably gonna have to go and fill my other tag.
