That's interesting. Thanks. I have heard that there is a strong probability of breaking wood shaft when bare shaft tuning, so I've never done it. I have bare shaft tuned carbons quite a bit, so I'm familiar with the process. Have you had issues with breaking shafts?Shadowhntr wrote:Yes,... I certainly do. I cannot even count the number I've tuned bare shaft brother.

Dennis, that's only if your spine is way off. But if you are close, it will be fine.

I'm not sure I'd notice the difference in 5-10# of spine. But let's assume one is spined and tuned to the bow. The other is spined one way or the other, heavier or lighter. I'd bet you'd notice the difference once they impacted the target.
I've also got a bare shaft I'll bring Tuesday next week. Let's shoot it just for fun.

Sounds like a plan, Jeremy.J. Holden wrote:I'm not sure I'd notice the difference in 5-10# of spine. But let's assume one is spined and tuned to the bow. The other is spined one way or the other, heavier or lighter. I'd bet you'd notice the difference once they impacted the target.

Re: Woodie spine question
Yep..exactly as Graps said, if you are in the ball park, and start up 7-10 yards away from the target and work your way back as you tune...you won't break the shaft. I cannot think of a time I've ever broken a woody bare shaft tuning....at least not from hitting too much sideways. I can think of a couple I broke from missing the whole target while tuning, and striking something solid! That only happened once or maybe twice.
I've read numerous times before how you can't tune wood shafts bare shaft method, from risk of breakage. When I read that, I instantly throw my head back and laugh. It must be a figment of my imagination that I've tuned dozen upon dozen upon dozen woodys bare shaft....

The element of surprise can never be replaced by persistence.
