Well, at least you made him aware of the situation. You might want to link him to this thread so he can see exactly what we see.

Mike says based on the fissure photo I sent him that I still have sapwood on there, I'm like 99 percent sure I don't, but what do I know... I'm a first timer at this. We will see where it goes... I'm gonna probably take a break for a couple of days **Pro tip don't work when frustrated** and finish up the current ring and come back to the problem area and see if it can be worked down a little more without going down another ring. I'm not real keen on chasing another ring, as it is very time-consuming... I am eager to get to laying out the bow and to get rid of a lot of this extra wood, but I'll do what I have to do... (bulky stave is hard to work with).

Yay I chased my first ring. And then had to violate it... so I did chase a ring and left the two knots intact as you can see. Afterward I took problem fissure down a ring... still a problem, so I took it down a second ring, still had problem marks, so I took it down a third ring and still have a couple of marks but they are close enough to edge that I believe I can just take them out. What do you all think?? A fourth ring down? Or count my blessings?

pics are out of order.. first pic you see is the problem spot chased down two additional rings. Second pic is the original chased ring, third and fourth pics are knots to address a little later with a special scraper, fifth is the problem spot, six is one additional ring down, final pic is three additional rings down..
