If you have a Woodcraft store nearby try a simple rasp and file, it will make short work of it. It’s like several hacksaw blades side by side. Just be sure to work glass to wood, never wood to glass, it can grap and destroy!

Might want to get you a farriers rasp. I have one and love it.

Trying to get this this to mate perfectly is my new nemesis. Am I being too picky or do I just need more practice?

I’ve never done this so take it with a grain of salt. But if it were me I do use a roller on a router bit to make a template and then use that template to do the other side of the riser and then sand to perfection.

Hey Dan, you don't want the overlay to be out on the working part of riser, it will pop off if you make it too long. Study her a bit and make enough to fill your grip .

I make mine 10 " long which is plenty. Also will be easier to fit the overlay on.
