Has anyone tried this, and is there any reason why you could not take it a step further and glue in a formed riser and recurve the tips?

Tried it many years ago but couldn’t find a board with grain straight enough, too many run outs. And didn’t have Maple so I tried Oak, not a good idea. Before going to far with bends you may want to consider a backing. Maybe a strip of Hickory or bamboo?
