We will see how this one goes. And the next one I do (which I will do before the end of the year), I'll try the hickory backed with bamboo. I get free shipping too... Gotta give it a shot. If I could make nice shootable bows for 100 bucks that would be killer.

I have a string order i am trying to fulfill for Tom. I'll probably get some work done on it after, I get all them strings done. I have about 1/4 of the stave chased on the fifth ring of heartwood.

Middle child came home sick from school. We chased about 2/3 the stave then ordered a rasp and a set of speciality scrapers. Full steam ahead.

You mentioned sourcing your own wood, that’s what I did when I began this addiction. Thankfully I have many friends with land, I just ask to cut a few trees. The Pignut Hickory seems to be best. Try to pick one wth straight grain by looking at straight or crooked the bark runs, if it twist around the tree with knots and such, move on. Takes a while to dry as Hickory retains moisture worse than many but the sapwood makes a decent bow.
A poor man has poor ways, I learned to make due!
Still hoping this one turns out good for you though.

Good idea Carp. We shall see on this stave. I am looking forward to actually laying out the bow, once I finish the chasing. I have found a place that sells hickory sapwood straight-grained and will do a matching bamboo backing for about 100 bucks shipped. Hickory without bamboo in Louisiana would be a noodle lol.
