Easy does it. I did some hard looking at the stave and apparently, I was not quite deep enough into the heartwood. It sort of looked like I had found the back, but the side of the stave was showing either that I had a very thin outer ring or a thin layer of sapwood left. Either way this is gonna be the back of the bow. This took about an hour of love and care to do with a cabinet scraper.

And I'm having a great time. Do you know how peaceful it is to just sit on a shave horse and make tinder?? Pretty cool considering I made the shave horse too and might I say it works pretty dang well!

Google image searched shave horse and just built it out of scrap wood at my house. So to answer question... Dead reckoning.

More work. Probably close to doubled the chases rings length and thinned out the rest of one side.
