Great looking bow! Hope you have success with it.
Re: Just like Christmas morning
Poly won't dry on bocote worth a crap.
Here is what I use and its only a suggestion. I don't build enough bows to warrant a sprayer and booth.
So I use auto clear coat from Oreillys(cause it's close) , red can think it is Perfect Match but I'll look to see brand.
It dries quick and I put a couple coats on limb edges , then shoot the whole bow a couple.
It is very gloss so I either hold the can back about 20'' and give one more coat for a frost finish or buy a can of wheel finish matte in same brand (taller black can) and spray normally.
Some guys are using VHT brand of clearcoat and I think they have matte in it also.

I had that thought earlier about the Bocote, but you were to quick for me. I could not get the Tru-Oil to dry completely on Bocote, stayed tacky, had me in the flesh, ended up sanding off a couple of times and trying again! Finally took the route Kenny recommended.
Re: Just like Christmas morning
Thank for the tip guys. The tru oil is a tiny bit tacky on the bacote still. May have to get some of the clear coat
Re: Just like Christmas morning
Looks good. Good luck with it. I’ll be watching for the overlays.

Over the years as a custom cabinet maker I have been exposed to similar issues on cabinet parts. Less oily woods though.
I am not a finishing expert, but I have done a lot of it.
There are various sealers that will help with that issue.
Another thing I have done that worked is to wipe the outer oils off the wood with a solvent (Denatured alcohol or lacquer thinner) before the first coat of finish. This is part of the reason why the lacquer based finishes dry better.
Thunderbird Archery has a filler/sealer that will help you to put various types of finishes on Bacote and Cocobolo along with other oily woods. It is $15 a quart. The problem with that is you will have to wait for it plus pay the shipping.
Zinsser SealCoat Universal Sanding Sealer is what I have in the shop now. It drys very fast and could probably be used as the finish.

Thanks for the pointers. I did wipe the whole bow down with alcohol before applying the tru oil. The finish on the bacote is still slightly tacky. I’ll probably sand it off and try one of you guys suggestions. If all else fails I bet St Joe River bows would shoot some thunderbird on it for me, they aren’t far from me.
