Re: Maple with Walnut Handle and Tip Overlays
Here's another pic. I could have thinned these some. Neither had any hand shock so I didn't bother. If you get handshock and can't tune.out by brace reduce tip.weight and thickness some.

Reduced tips to 3/8@ nocks. Tapered 8" from nocka towards handle. Didn't lose any weight still at 40#.

James, I think you may have found your calling. Seriously. Board bows.
Aim small, miss small!
Re: Maple with Walnut Handle and Tip Overlays
I enjoy making them its a great way to learn and members seem.to be interested in them and some make them. The main basic skill "tillering" can be learned on a board then transitioned into stave builds. However, I really enjoy staves more. Cutting the tree, prep, the long wait and then finishing one up. Being new to building bows I have cut several staves. Just waiting for them to dry.

the tips look nice, love the contrast too
Re: Maple with Walnut Handle and Tip Overlays
Ya the last 2 pictures are before and after. Huge difference. I like the arrow rounded appearance more that flat and fat. I also cut a groove on the back which I haven't done very much. One consideration when doing so is thickness of the overlay, you don't want to cut into the actual board.

Looks great.

Finished this bow up today. May remark the poundage etc. Got some bleeding with the ink. Overall happy, first time using maple. Took more set than I wanted. But its acceptable. Narrowing the tips took some of the handshock away.

Thanks Greg. I was too stiff initially on floor tiller and didn't take my time tillering which caused the set. A small initial hinge was a factor also. With that line in the limb, I doubted the wood. Completely my fault, not the wood. It should have came out better.
