BAck in the 80's I sold rats in MT for like $8 ea... and got $13 for coons in PA whole..they paid almost as much for whole muskrats as skinned and dried....

Now, the buyer I used, would open the rats mouth, smell it and squeeze...I asked him WT? He said he could skin them, freeze the meat and sell to guys who sold to S'uthn restaurants as "marsh rabbit"... I had them washed, dried and combed at least 2 days before I took them to him with guts in...

Trust me...I ever see Marsh Rabbit on a menu down here, I ain't eating it!!! :o

I know old trappers are immune to much that would gag a buzzard off a manure spreader, but aged with guts in for 2 days...I'd say NEVER Cross your lips!

About 4 years ago I got $82 out of one, and $60 out of another. Most my Reds at that time were landing around $30-$50. We dont get real high grade Reds here in Kansas very often though. We did a lot better on bobcats. We dont get those extreme high western prices, but have seen $260, $280, and $300. Not bad for Eastern cats.

That's what I miss! Dang cat trappin! I love trappin in general but there's something about them cats. :D Maybe someday the prices will rebound enough that I don't feel the animal is being disrespected and get back at it.
