11pm and you can't sleep so.....

Come on in and sit a spell. There's a seat for you around the campfire.

11pm and you can't sleep so.....

#1 Post by Jamesh76 »

I went snooping around in my arrow bucket and some 5/16 birch dowels that I absolutely love making shafts from. I shoot 100 grain field points out of them and shaft averages around 490 @ 29". Dug out a few and put them on the spine tester. Checking some old woodies I previously made. I got quite a range from 35 to 65 pound spine. Only problem is I never ordered any wood shafts that spine above 55. Come to find out some 23/64 chundoo I ordered 6 or 7 months ago as 50-55, I actually received 60-65 spine.... too bad I already pretty much built them and no damn wonder why I couldn't get them to work out of my 45# Cougar. I double checked several I ordered which I knew the spine range. Anyways, I found I have 36 left in 40-45 spine, 14 in 45-50 and 6 in 50-57. So what's a guy do you ask? Sand down shafts! In the 45-50 spine hoping they work in my bow that's coming Saturday.

Nope I was off duty trying to stay up to transition to night shift tomorrow. Needed to get them in.... so no not paid. My own fault though. But tomorrow I’m training a rookie so I wanted all my stuff caught up.

Hey James,

I bet if you contact the company you purchased your shafts from and explained the details of how you just discovered the spine problem, they will send you replacement shafts in the right spine. I had an issue with shafts that were significantly our of weight tolerance. I spoke to the supplier and he sent me three additional shafts. Just a thought.

I may contact them. The shafts are more less finished though. May just hang onto them. Someday I may need to shoot a real heavy glue on head.
