Adam and I are back from UT and brought the goods!

#1 Post by bjorn »

Thanks to some hard working and generous local hunters we met on the PBS Youth Hunt we had a great time hunting in Utah last week. Craig Burris who was a mentor for Adam two years ago set up cameras and scouted a waterhole for Adam prior to our arrival. We were fortunate to share his campfire, and we intend to take him Pig hunting here in CA this winter.
The place we hunted is the Cache valley near the Idaho border, a magical plateau at about 7500 feet with lots of forests, marshes and water holes-perfect for Elk.

The weather was a bit warm, a little rain-mostly at night, a windstorm one night and some dry thunderstorms here and there. The hunting was great!
Adam had Elk and Moose come to his waterhole every day and he scored a beautiful 5 point Bull on Tuesday; the Bull came to the waterhole at about 8 AM and presented an excellent broadside shot opportunity at 15-20 yards.
Adam's broadhead punctured both lungs and the recovery was pretty easy despite thick brush.

Everybody pitches in and lends a hand..............we got to reciprocate on other hunters kills too. Elk are big animals, hunting them on your own would be tough. Here's Adam preparing his kill for the two hour trek back to the truck.

Here is Adam beginning the long trek back to the car with a quarter and the head.
