Cheap Insurance.

#1 Post by stumper »

Hunting in Louisiana means hunting in less than idea conditions. Swamplands, rain, hot weather bow season etc. When Jose posted his first video hunt this year I knew his use of string tracker would be almost a necessity for Louisiana. That day or maybe the day after I went and immediately ordered a string tracker. Just a quick note the trackers are slightly cheaper when ordered direct from drifterarchery than on three rivers. So in comes the string tracker last night and it is beautiful leather work to be sure. Well the set up was easy and I followed the instructions and did a few test shots. I have to say that I cannot find fault with the product and can see no downside to using one. If the tracker hits and you get a pass through you get two strings to follow. If the arrow sticks and stays you get one. I imagine this product will also aid in arrow retrieval as well as game. Even if the arrow falls out I suspect it will still aid in getting you on the blood trail. And if it doesn’t do any of those things it certainty doesn’t hurt to have. Another thing that seems interesting is that if the arrow connects and you leave it attached I imagine that if you bump the game seeing the string start to come out of the spool will let you know to stop and back out. This thing is simply wonderful and doesn’t seem to affect my accuracy. Time to put it to the real test full review will come after a field trial. I am confident it will work as advertised and it will stay on my bows for years to come.

Easily ties to itself during regular practice and is light enough not to care to remove it.

That's pretty fascinating, especially since all 3 (four, including the Tamerlane) of my Bears, plus the Sage, have the threaded insert on the front of the bow. No more lost arrows in the event of a miss, either...how would one go about attaching the string on a wooden arrow with glue-ons?

I assume if you shoot and miss, there's enough string to simply cut off what extended and reattach to the arrow?

Don't quote me but I want to say there is around 600 yards of line. I have used the same spool for several hunts if I feel there is enough line left. If one runs you should have enough line. I have never ran out of line for a retrieve. But I am sure even if you do run out you will still have blood to lead you to the line.

Slip knot behind the arrow head right on the edge of the taper didn’t even budge when hitting and going into target. There is approximately 1/3 mile of string in the case of a runner. Yes I just cut it off after each shot ad reattached. Easy peasey

I thought somewhere in the past I had seen a line item in the IL hunting regs stating string tracking devices were not legal on deer. A quick scan just now turned up nothing, maybe they removed it. I also see for 2017 they amended minimum bow draw weight on deer from 40# down to 30#...geez; I could hunt with my Baby Ben!
