Broadhead development update

#1 Post by Mitch Edwards »

Just wanted to let all that were interested know I'm still working out kinks. Turns out the brazing is the most complicated and expensive part of the build process. Learning more on it in my free time. If I can't find a company to do it I'll have to pull the trigger on the equipment to do it myself. Hoping I don't have to do that though.

Hum; who knew?? Hope you don't get sunk to deep financially, don't want worry to rob you of the enjoyment of creating. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

Hey Mitch glad to hear your are still working on them, you sure got me wondering what you've been able to come up with.

what kind of ferrel did you work out? IDK if it would work or not but they have some really crazy adhesives these days, especially if you can get the industrial stuff like they use on cruise ships and what not.

In the end I want a ferrule similar to an Abowyer but I think those are solid and machined. I'm not looking to copy that so I plan on turning a tapered ferrule on a cnc lathe then cutting out the blade to fit the outside and brazing them together and doing the heat treat process at the same time. That's what had me flustered for awhile. Turns out they got braze that melts at critical temperature for just about any harden able tool steel. Still ain't settled on steel. Leaning towards A-2 but drawn back to 50RC. Any suggestions?

Wish I say I had an opinion but my dog probably knows more about steel than I do.
