**Finally** The never ending build a long.
Re: The never ending build a long. Horse complete.
Nicely done Dave, if you do as well on the bows it's going to be a great journey!
Captain would take it one step farther though and put wheels on that thing so he could ride it.

There's a good idea! I was lookin it over thinking that would be a great way to build a fleshing beam if I ever get back to trappin.Carpdaddy wrote:Nicely done Dave, if you do as well on the bows it's going to be a great journey!

I bet he would!!! And we will see with the bow part might suck it up a time or ten at first. The one thing I have going for me is that I am a perfectionist and take my time when carving. I would love to have a working first bow, prolly a pipe dream though.Carpdaddy wrote:Nicely done Dave, if you do as well on the bows it's going to be a great journey!

Nothing clears a troubled mind like shooting a bow.

I am loving the journey though. And that's what counts.

I've ridden worse, trust me.

Stave is here might be difficult to chase a ring on as the rings are pretty small. He has more expensive pieces that have honking rings might buy another.

Re: The never ending build a long. **stave in**
You can do it Dave, I've got confidence in your study, ability, and initiative. There is a bow in there somewhere, dig it out!
The element of surprise can never be replaced by persistence.
Re: The never ending build a long. **stave in**
Thanks for the boost of confidence shadow. As I continue to do research there seems to be two schools of thought one chase a ring while green and seal or to let it dry then Chase. Whether because I'm impatients to start or because I want to prove to myself that I can in fact do this I began chasing rings tonight. it is taking more than an hour of carving to really feel the wood. I am happy to say though that I have a ring going. Slow going.

Re: **chasing golden rings** The never ending build a long.
Nice! I'm admiring your progress as well as your workmanship!
You'll have to explain the "ring-thing" to me, though...

Re: **chasing golden rings** The never ending build a long.
As we all know each year of growth the tree adds a ring. Certain Bow woods like black locust and Osage strongly suggest that you expose a yearly growth ring on the entire back of the bow. This is done to ensure no splitting on the back of the bow and increases strength and resilience of an unbacked bow. I will say it was harder than I thought it would be to expose a single ring across the entire back now that I have it all the way across work is going slow but is easier to see.
