Squirrelly pool noodle challenge

#1 Post by Carpdaddy »

In preparation for hunting Squirrels with my bow I decided to try practicing on something close in size but not nearly as quick! I cut five pieces of a small sized pool noodle into 4” pieces. I placed them at 10,15,20,25,&30 yards. It was fun but then I began concentrating on head shots. So I put a plastic Easter egg on top and been having a blast trying to shoot the egg off. Quite a challenge, I’m now trying at 20 & 25 yards, I managed to hit them a few times each day. Here are a few pictures of my strange 🐿 practice session....

Been shooting .600 spine with 145-175gr tips, now trying some .500 spine with 225-250gr points, I use bare shaft until hitting good and flying straight.

Those plastic eggs may be too hard on your fletchings. Maybe go to the store and try hitting some Peeps

Then again, you may not like all the sticky stuff on your arrows

Great practice and great fun, I'm sure. Glad you are out and about and shooting again.

Yesterday I stretched it out to 30 yards, I poked some arrows in the grass also, but sometimes I get lucky! I did better than I expected. I was trying to see how much different my 600 spine/150gr points I usually use would be from these 500 spine with 250 & 300gr points. The heavy arrows did fine at 30, this was my best round of course, not my norm!

What's that deer up to, Tony? Hiding his head in the lawn like an ostrich? "deer-strich"?

Here is another lucky shot I made week or so ago that I will probably never make again. I was practicing close range precision shots, I laid a noodle long ways from me, stuck a couple nerf gun bullets in the end to shoot at, and somehow got a “pass-thru” without hitting??
