Sometimes you need a metal detector rabbit hunting

#1 Post by jaydee2trad »

A friend and I decided to go rabbit hunting in the city limits which meant bow and arrows. we had an area that had a lot of low growing honeysuckle and grass. It was rather cold but we meant to thin the numerous rabbits out. At this point, all we had were blunts on alluminum shafts. As much as I would like to say that we head shot a dozen rabbits, we didn't. In fact, the rabbits were very spooky and this made shots challenging at best. This was a learning curve hunt for us back then as we found that our arrows dissapeared instantly under the honeysuckle and grass when using blunts. Neither one of use had even brought Flu Flus and so we quickly ran out of arrows. A quick trip back home to get a cheap metal detector resulted in finding most of the arrows but we still left 2 or 3 that we never found. the next trip at least had a simple washer behind the blunts which helped a lot. The nearest archery store was nearly a hundred miles away so it would be a while before we got better heads for the grass etc. So we used what we had on hand or could get from a hardware store. The combination of the blunt and washer would do a number on the rabbits when a shot connected. it also did a number on squirrels as well. I took the metal detector to our archery club's range one day and found about 40 arrows that had been lost by others. most were too rusted up to unscrew any heads on the alluminum arrows but it was funny to see how many had been lost just in the area that we had checked.

A very good idea, Jerry! You could probably find wood or carbons as well from the field points.

yep, found a few of those. the wood arrows were usually broken from being stepped on I guess. made flu flu's out of the carbons

Never got around to trying a metal detector, but once during a 3d shoot, we were hunting for a lost arrow in the thick stuff behind a target. The next group walked up on us and so we came out so they could shoot around us. They had this English Golden Retriever with them who they said could easily and joyfully find our lost arrow. We thought, great, lets see what she can do. They mentioned that in her excitement, she didn't always bring back the arrow in perfect shape. So they sent her in and a few minutes later out she come with the arrow, and without being showed, she took it right to the one whose scent was on it. Dogs are amazing.
Jesus replaces the old covenant and speaks to the believer the moral code of God by His Spirit directly to the heart. He is the eternal, everlasting revelation of God to mankind. In Him is both the knowledge of righteousness and the power to live right.
