Oh my, another set in progress

#1 Post by Jamesh76 »

After shooting the Darton earlier in the week. I sure like the color and look of the walnut stain/natural cap, brown and green feathers with a black nock. They will be fine for shooting. However, they are difficult to see in flight.

So..... Whats a guy do? He builds another dozen.

I really like the walnut stain. so I will use walnut with a cap. For now its just a natural cap, I may spray it later.

White, orange, red, gray, ,black feathers? thinking 2x white, 1 orange

nock? flo green, red/ruby pink ish, black, blue leaning towards flo green or redish pink

Thoughts?

I like white fletch for visibility, but it really depends where you are shooting. White works well against a dark background, but if you are shooting in wide open spaces, a dark fletching combo may be a better choice.

that may have been it. I was shooting inside, at about 8 yards. its not a lot of room to see flight and dark at the end of the tunnel.

I used to use only white fletching on all my arrows.

While pink is not my favorite color, I reluctantly have to agree with Dale that it is probably the most visible color in the woods. I've lost my fair share of arrows while stumping, but never lost one with pink fletching, even when buried in moss.

So in flight, what stands out the most? Nock, feathers or cresting? Seems like I follow an arrow better with a bright green or pink nock. What about you? Does fletch color matter so much in flight? Once the arrow is out of paradox, is it the nock only you see?

Here is what I ended up with..... I could have used all white, orange or another bright color. However, I had a surplus of gray, black and dark colors. Used duco this time, having a little issue with my fletcher holding feather tip tight enough againt the arrow.

Added reflective strips and this will be the finished product.
