A bow building article you might be interested in

#1 Post by dhaverstick »

I have an article in the June issue of the "Missouri Conservationist" about building a kid's bow out of PVC pipe. It's a great project to do with a group of children and the cost of the bow is around $2. When I have done this with a group, we always had a bunch of markers available so the young'uns could decorate their bow how they see fit. The United Bowhunters of Missouri has built these by the hundreds and given them away at various fairs and such. The bow will pull around 15 pounds and will flat sling an arrow!

It's so cool traditional bowhunters look after the kids the way they do. If it weren't for you guys that take the time out next generation wouldn't have any interest.

That's great Darren. I have made a few of those myself. It's a great way to put a big smile on a little face! Wish I had made this discovery when I was young.

Earth to Tony, Earth to Tony...they didn't HAVE pvc pipe when we were young. Remember?

Anyway, nice touch, Darren. Passing the torch is always a good thing.

Lol! I think I'm gonna try my hand at a PVC bow. If it works, I'll make up some dowel arrows and see if I can find a willing kid...just looks like fun!

That would be great to throw into a hunter ed class! They already carry pvc guns on the field walk.
