Second self bow
I made my first self bow last year about this same time and although it turned out pretty good I was already thinking about a different design as soon as I finished.
I shoot with a fixed crawl and although it works fine on my Rick Welch Dakota, it wouldn’t work on my self bow because it takes it too far out of tiller. After getting ideas from a few different people I decided my next bow would have a 6” riser with my shelf set 2” above the center.
Still being a rookie it took me awhile to align the limb tips with the riser as the stave wasn’t straight. I’m also putting more recurve in the limbs. I still have a lot of tillering left to do but I’m going to take my time and hopefully get it right.

Re: Second self bow
Where did you get your osage? I have had a crap shoot with terrible wood.... even from supposed reputable dealers. I have a bow that is ready for reflex in the limbs, however it has the worst propeller twist and knots in limbs you've ever seen. Needless to say the project is on hold at the moment. I've been wanting to do a self bow so bad but have been skiddish about buying wood online. Toying with this idea of driving to Tennessee for the self bow jamboree to pick out some wood.
Nothing clears a troubled mind like shooting a bow.

I’ve been getting mine from Clint Anders( Osage outlaw)
Re: Second self bow
Started tillering today. This is where I need to take my time and frequently recheck my tiller and weight.
Re: Second self bow
Looking good, curious about bends near tips, did you steam or what before putting that recurve?
Re: Second self bow
I used a heat gun for the recurve. I clamped the limb tip in the form and hung a big wrench off the other limb and let it bend to the form as it heated up. I applied vegetable oil to the limbs while heating. I do have a pretty good steaming method as well.
