Pyramid Longbows

#1 Post by Jamesh76 »

My first ever attempt at a pyramid broke a few weeks ago. Thinking it was my fault for getting in a hurry and not letting it rehydrate enough. So I started 3 more today. All are red oak, 66" NTN. 1" wide handle. 2 are 2.5" at the fades and 1 is 1.5". Will probably go 45,50 and 35 for weight. All 3 will have osage handle, tips and a glue on osage shelf with leather handles.

James, that is some of the best grain in red oak boards that I have seen, better than what I have found here. That was why I backed mine with the bamboo

You will. Keep at it whenever you go to town. Oak, maple or hickory

Worked the tip overlays down so far today. Debating on narrowing them and tapering again. I liked the 3/8" on the maple bow.

I got one floor tillered and ready for long string. I went ahead and narrowed tips to 3/8. When I was getting ready to cut the nock in, I didn't like the position on the overlays. I went in 1/2" instead of 1" to start my string grooves. I now have a 67" bow. No big deal. I should have made my overlays 2" or a tad longer. The pieces I had were about 1 1/2".
