And I still hate Hickory part 2......

Here we go again.... no clue why this one broke. Broke when I was stringing it.

you looked at it wrong again, you just have a hickory thing that's all. but it still gets old. too dry?

that is a knot, very center of limb. I don't think it is necessarily why it broke. Grain around it looked good, was left slightly wider at this point. The break started at the other end. I believe the wood was too dry on this one. Have made multiple bows with knots and this one looked probably the best of them all.

That's where the break finished, okay.

Being a cabinet maker, I have cut a ton of hickory. I have seen weird things, even while ripping on table saw, from hickory. You think the grain looks okay to rip and then it goes haywire. I can see why someone would have issues making a board bow out of it. Especially if it is on the rustic or character grade side. (#1 or #2 common). Can you request or get premium grade (select or better)?

I always found it to be way more stable and easier to see what the grain will to.

A lot of places around here only get #1 or #2 common.
