"The Covid Opossum"

#1 Post by Jamesh76 »

A few of you know, but last Friday I tested positive for covid eventhough I was vaccinated. This piece I fought for months to get straight. It was difficult from the start. Straightness, hinge, knots, bumps etc. Well with time off work and not really feeling terrible, I started tinkering with it on and off since Friday. With the hinge which was on the right limb, I didn't think I would make a very good weight bit I kept going. At 24" on my tillering tree I heated the belly and flipped the tips. Haven't shot yet, but I'm looking forward to it. The bow ended up 61.5" NTN and 41@28. Standard pyramid layout. 2" at the fades, straight taper to 1/2" tips. Floppy rest, leather to build up handle then I glued leather around the handle. I used strips of opossum my son trapped and tanned. Due to being thin hide, I cut them about 3/8 wide. Interested to see if they tear and how they work out. B50 black and white string. Black serving, white nocking point. I like thicker strings, this one is 14 strand.
