I'm someone that doesn't like to cook but when I do I try and keep it simple.
This one is great for a campout or even a cookout.

Get a good bed of coals in a fire pit or even use charcoal.
Slice a bunch of potatoes about 1/4" thick ( I like to quarter the potato first so the slices are bight size )
Then get some aluminum foil and pull off about 18"
With it shiny side up, rub a stick of butter all over the middle of the foil but stay away a few inches from the edges.
Now distribute the potatoes along the middle but not over an inch thick.
And optional, add diced onions too if you like. And I do.
Salt and pepper all over the whole mess.
Now put a few dabs of shortening in a few spots.
Take the long sides of the foil and bring them together and fold them together a few turns and press that flat, like a seam a little over a 1/2" wide.
If you can't do that, you have too much goodies in the package. If so make another one.
Now fold the two ends up to the ends and if you can't get at least 3 folds, too much goodies inside. ( repeat previous step )
Now place the package on the coals with the seam side down first.
Leave it for 8 minutes, then flip it over and another 8 minutes.
Then it's done. Some of the potatoes will be dark brown and if you like fried taders, you will be in buisness.

Yes indeed. Done this many times. Even thrown some ground chuck in there seasoned with garlic salt. Call it hobo burgers round these parts.
