Nice custom skinning knife

#1 Post by Cody2306 »

What is a nice custom skinning knife? Who’s making them? I would like to find somebody making them from the states. And what’s Damascus ? I’m interested in a fixed blade deer or elk antlers.

Damascus is steel that is folded together . It is a high carbon steel and a mild steel.
It is heated in a forge and hammered and folded.
It makes a very strong blade and it's very neat looking. It's called the finger print. It's etched with acid and that makes the fold lines show up.

This is what a Damascus blade looks like.
You can order a blade from these people and if you would like to make you own, I would be happy to help you.
You can PM me with questions and I'll talk you through it.
You might want to get a cheeper blade for your first one to get the learning curve out of the way.
I don't sell knives but I do make them. PM me if you have any other questions.

Dale is the authority on knives around here and he probably can make better recommendations than me. I use a 20 buck mora for skinning lol. Damascus steel is tough cookie to explain. Check out the link http://www.thetruthaboutknives.com/2013 ... ascus/amp/

Edit: There he is. The expert posted while I was posting lol.

What style of skinner do you have in mind?
Her is a picture of a few ideas.

This is an antler handle that is in the works, I could shape the tip to be a skinner.
