So , I made a nice braid with flames along the side .
Put the resist on , let it set for a day and then put the antiquing gel on and wiped it off and ,.........
I'm going to enter this one in the ugly sheath contest . :?

The tooled areas are supposed to be blond . I guess I didn't get the resist on good enough and the flames are brown and the edges of the braid are brown too .
Looks all smeared and kinda like refrigerator art .

You wouldn’t want anyone to see you with such a thing in your possession Graps. Just send it to me and I’ll dispose of it properly!
Seriously: that thing may not be as planned but it’s nice!

I have to tell you this whole project was a mistake .
First I was making a sheath for a new knife and I was in a hurry to get it done so I could get it in the mail the next day .
I got it all tooled , sewn and trimmed . Went to put the knife in it so I could line up the snap and the knife fell all the way to the bottom of the sheath and had rattle room .
I had used the pattern for the knife that is in this picture .
Not to worry , that knife needed a sheath anyway so it wasn't scrap .
Paying attention now I cut a new blank and tool it and get it all done and on its way . :P
I decided I was going to do the resist trick on this one , someone didn't do the second coat of resist like you are supposed to and that's why it turned out like this .

Well I just threw the whole thing away .
The knife ; I did the handle but I bought the blade from Texas Knife Works .
The reason I bought the blade is , it cost me about $20. for the D-2 stock to make a blade .
I bought that blade already heat treated and finished for $28. , so all I had to do was mount it in the antler handle .
My wife made a good point , that was not one of my blades , so it didn't have my personality in it and it was a SS tool steel Rockwell 56 , so it would be a fair blade at best .
The main part of the blade is faux hammered to look forged , but when I got it , it just looked cheep .
So , live and learn . Chalk it up to " WHAT WAS I THINKING ?"
And the sheath fail was the icing on the cake .
I'm not going to buy a pre made blade again . Nope , not gonna do it .
