I'm using brown sinew so it will show better in the pictures.
Split it in two after cutting about 3 feet. ( better to have too much than too short because you need to have some to grab when tightening the knot.)

Start opposite end from the flap.

You are going to do a cross stitch which is going thrue the same hole from both sides with each thread. It's easier to use two needles but one will work, just have to thread it back and forth on each side as you go.

After each time you cross over, pull both strands at the same time tight and repeat.
You will stop at the flap end to the side that the flap will cover the knot . The flap will protect the knot from getting rubbed loose in the pocket.

Now tie a surgeons knot.
Three times around, pull tight and then three times around the opposite way you did the first one and pull tight.
Example, left over right and then right over left.

Cut, leaving about 1/8" and repeat on the other side.

Now fold the flap over to see where to wet the leather and as before, fold being careful to line the edges up and place the wood on it to dry.

We will trim the flap after it dries and we will trim the whole thing on both sides.
The sides can be cut with a very sharp knife or as I like to do, use a belt sander with a course grit. But be careful, the belt sander is going to grab that leather, so very light pressure.
And either method, you can always take more off but you can't put it back on.

Trim the flap so it is just short of the fold.
The reason for that is, as it gets broken in, the flap will smash into the main part and fit your pocket nicely.
At this point, trim the sides with the flap closed.
Also you will notice water stains but after you put a finish on they will disappear.
As far as finish, you can use a leather conditioner or Saddle Soap.
And your project is finished.
But I'm going to finish this one.
I'll show how I'm going to do that in the next few days.
I'll demonstrate using a resist and we shall see how it turns out.
Hope you understood this project and it will help you decide if you want to jump into this hobby.
Thanks for reading. Dale

Wow this is a really cool thread, thanks Graps.

I have been wanting to make my own back quiver for a while now, just not sure of what weight of leather I want. This would probably be a better project for me to get my feet wet with though.
