Water Buffalo

#1 Post by Graps »

So I got a good deal on a full side of Water Buffalo hide.
It is 7-9 oz. leather that is very soft and playable.
I have been thinking of using it to make possible bags or something like that.
But today I made a knife sheath with it.
I'm not too sure about how it's going to work out but it looks neat.
This leather has a cool natural texture but it could be too flexible for a knife sheath.

I do admit it is neat looking and I don't have to tool or stain it. Cut, stitch, install snaps and it's done.

Looks good. Any thoughts on maybe lining it with something to stiffen it up?

I gave it to my wife. She has a knife that will fit it and it won't get carried.
I just don't think this leather is safe to carry a knife.
And if I need to put a stiffener in it, I might as well just use the veg tanned.

That is pretty amazing looking leather for "as-is". I agree, that would make an outstanding possibles bag!
