Got a basspro archery catalog in the mail and on the 6th page there is an add for the osprey and Phoenix lever bow
These things look funky like a mix of recurve and compound. They are marketed for bow fishing. Is this a new contraptions or am I just behind?

Isn't that what the old Oneida Tomcat bows were?
The element of surprise can never be replaced by persistence.
Re: Lever bows?

Re: Lever bows?
I shot one (Tomcat) ages ago that the bow shop was trying to sell me. It was long ago so all I do remember was thinking how loud it was firing.

Re: Lever bows?
I don’t know about y’all but if my bow is going to bother to have levers and thingys on it. I’ll buy a compound. Till then plain recurves and longbows for me.
Nothing clears a troubled mind like shooting a bow.
Re: Lever bows?
I have never shot one, but did stand beside a guy at the local range years ago, while we shot. He had one of the Screaming Eagles. Like Jason said, it was really loud. I do remember the guy saying it was pretty quick.
Comparing then to now may be unfair to the modern Oneida. For bow fishing they should work just fine.
Another thing I recall thinking back then was it looked scary to shoot and there is a lot that could go wrong on a bow hunt.

They look like they came out of a Star Trek show or something.
I wouldn't spleens 800 bucks on one but I would love to shoot one if I ever got the chance.
