Dewey Wills Hunt 1

#1 Post by stumper »

The great chase continues and this time, I have a feeling. I am sitting here working a dog like shift all so I can hunt all day Friday and Saturday with Will (my hunting partner) up at Dewey Wills WMA. We've never been here before (so no scouting), however, we are super excited about seeing some deer for a few reasons. The part of the WMA we are going to is only accessible by a canoe (which knocks a lot of people out), It is bow hunt only, pin on the map was given to me by a serious bow hunter that kills several deer there every year, we talked to a wildlife biologist who confirmed that there are tons of deer in that area (that's where he hunts), and most of the places we have been hunting have been about a 1/15 hunts per success ratio and this one is a 1/5 WMA wide.

Sure, I would like a harvest but just seeing a few deer would go a long way for this soul.

Wish me luck and in-depth post to follow.

Update on the hand: Able to shoot right handed again (really scared me because I couldn't even hold a gun for a few days). Doc says I have tendonitis and the main pain has gone away; bad news I tied some strings yesterday and the pain came back pretty quick (not sure what I'm gonna do yet in the long run)...

In other news ordered some more arrows (building for my bear Tigercat because I've been jonesing to shoot that baby since I got home from Colorado) and I may do a simple build-along on the site as well. Self-bow is ready for steam or dry heat (still not sure what I'm gonna do but expect an update on that too) and I should be doing that sometime soon.
Nothing clears a troubled mind like shooting a bow.

Sounds like a plan for success!
Take it easy with the tendonitis. Either you will let it heal or make it worse, depending on how soon you get back to using it again. Sounds like you still need to back off on the string tying a while.

Sounds promising, good luck on the hunt. A canoe hunt would be cool, that’s awesome.

So we headed off in the early morning hours with a truck, canoe and a couple of bows. Once we arrived we got right to work. We checked in and went straight to the section recommended by the wildlife biologist. This stuff was thick y’all and we went where I doubt any bow hunter has been in a long while. More to come.
