Hehehe....you remind me of myself when I was younger. Willing to do what others wouldn't do, in exchange for an enhanced experience.

Awesomeness!!!!

After not seeing much in the area, we decided to head to the island (spot suggested to me by a local contact at the archery shop). It’s about a 1/4 to 1/2 mike canoe from the shore and is a bow only area of the wma. No guns and access by boats only? That really cuts down on the crowd, yes please. Knowing that we didn’t have a whole lot of time we hastily chose a spot sat for a couple hours and then put some miles on the legs scouting for the next day. We figured the couple hours scouting would be worth their weight in gold... boy were we right. We packed up the truck found a tree and hung two hammocks from the tailgate, I was out before I could even enjoy the fire ... more to come.

This hunt was taken two weeks ago. But with 150 photos and work being nuts it's taken this long to tell the tale.

0430 Will and I awake and get right to it. We pack up our camp and are at the waters edge by 0500. I openly dislike Louisiana but this day and hunt in general would endear it to me slightly. My boatman paddled across the waterway and we began our all day hunt. I picked my spot at the edge of what I called a deer super highway that I scouted the day prior. Man there were prints everywhere, but where to climb? Skinny trees and crooked willows everywhere. Ugh I settle for a tree and found that the teeth of my stand did not like it. Only 8 feet off ground but I had a killer view.

I worked hard to get my stand secure but multiple slippages made me uneasy. Gonna have to move. Rocky start to the best day of deer hunting I’ve ever had. More to come.
