doe incoming 10 yards and closing. Straight on shot.... 5 yards I stand up bow in hand.... the tree creaks and what feels like a ten minute staring contest begins. I can’t move, can’t draw, who will give?? Doe moves back to 20 yards tree in view... no shot. Crash in the trees behind me doe runs back 10 more yards.
Nothing clears a troubled mind like shooting a bow.

A small fawn came barreling through and with all the excitement in the world to see mom. Mom could not help but be concerned with my presence and maintained an eye on my while the fawn nursed. It was a sweet moment that was worth spooking a deer to see. In the end I’m glad the shot didn’t happen but I imagine in the coming month she will be kicking the fawn out and will be fair game. I’ve never been that close before. That’s stick bow close. Nothing would appear the rest of the day and the sun set on a golden wood and thus ended my louisiana adventure. I met will at the canoe and together we paddled out.

Sorry this took so long to finish guys. It’s been busy. I have some trail cam pics back and am getting out on Thursday.

Good stuff. Better late then never.

That was really an even better ending than a kill. What a great story! Successful hunts don't have to end with meat in the pot in my book.

As you recall in the hunts I shared, they were great hunts even though I didn't harvest anything.
Sometimes unsuccessful hunts help us learn and grow as hunters.
Every now and then we are exposed to things and scenes that unfold that are rarely seen by others and sometimes priceless.
