Never owned a three piece takedown, that’s my goal for a next bow, and ouch again Doug!

Doug, is there any warranty?

No......That riser is more than 7 yrs old and the warranty expired. But it surely was a shock to have the whole thing collapse while aiming at full draw. I thought that the string had broken as I have had that happen before. I was amazed to find that the wood had split right down the middle especially because I am only pulling 38 lbs. Now, I am looking for a replacement riser but am reluctant to go with wood again.

This is what we called "The Metal Wall" at the Compton Traditional Shoot up in Southern Mich. This was back before I was called out of the woods around 2010 or before. All of us were from the other forum and we always had a great time together. There are more affordable metal risers out there now then ever before. I use a modified Hoyt TD-3. My Grandson has a JOAD TD-3 that was made as a recurve. Mine could have been also or Hoyt used that same riser on their early compounds. It is an older magnesium riser.
My daughter paid about $100 for a really nice light weight used Axiom+21 black magnesium Sebastian Fluke riser. They also make one in alum. Even Trad Tech makes a nice metal riser - that made many of us on that forum mad because we all believed they basically copied the DAS riser - which is still pretty expensive used. As ILF risers were becoming popular among the traditional archers, it was commonly held that an all wood ILF riser was a risky proposition. They have the look we all like, but I avoided them. It looks like yours separated at the lamination glue line.
What you may want to research a bit, is which one will work best with you longer draw length. I'm assuming you draw 29" to 30". With the modified WARF risers, The Proline was best for short draws, the Hoyt Rambo or Spectra riser was best for long draws and my Holy TD-3 was just a great all around riser. It had alot to do with the limb pocket angle. I've never looked into that with production risers.
I like them because I feel and am less effected by the vibrations in a disc in my neck area. The metal and or weight, seems to absorb the vibrations better than my wooden recurves do. Even a short stabilizer might help, but I rarely use one.

I don't know much about those Olympic style metal risers. They use weights and flippers and strike plates and all that stuff that I know nothing about. I bet they are also cold to the touch in the winter time. But after my experience with wood I am willing to try something new.

Wow doug. Glad you werent hurt when that riser gave up the ghost.
I think i also would have went for a wood riser, for beauty and for not sucking the heat from your hand on a cold day.
I wonder if ilf bows put morw stress on a riser than a bolt down style. Seems there are a lot of wood risers on thkse type of bows that seem to do just fine.
I have never got into the ilf bows and i dont know much about them but i am sure interested by those super hooked limbs like the hex 8. I wonder if they are worth all the hype.

These look pretty sweet! They only come in 17" length.
