Jamesh76 arrow build
Jamesh76 arrow build
Thought, in would show my process. Here is where I get birch. I check for run out, spine and weigh them into groups. Most are in the high 30 to about 47 spine. For me these work perfect. https://woodcrafter.com/5-16-x-36-birch ... ge-of-100/
Re: Jamesh76 arrow build
And an important part of the process to relax and enjoy it a tad more.

Nice, another build along.

Re: Jamesh76 arrow build
Of course, you dont want to rush arrows too much. So why not throw on some big KC Strips while working? This allows time to slow down while ya check the grill.

Re: Jamesh76 arrow build
I hand straighten most of my arrows. I also have a small pulley wheel and the round edge of a Phillip's screw driver I use. Sometimes I even use heat.

Re: Jamesh76 arrow build
I use 00 or 000 steel wool and sand the shafts once they are fairly straight. I continue straightening them for 3 or 4 days until they are the best I can get them. I have never gotten one I would consider as perfectly straight.

Re: Jamesh76 arrow build
To measure length, i taper the nock end of one arrow. I have a 3' board fashioned with a yard stick screw on and a nail at the end to place the nock indicting zero. Typically the taper is about 3/4" longer than your BOP.i just mark.the bop length onto my board. Place a mark on the first arrow. I then use the side of my board as a straight edge to line up the arrows and then mark my cut using my bow square.

Re: Jamesh76 arrow build
Next is grain orientation. From my understanding, you want the grain facing the archer or nock. Reason being, if it breaks it should.break up and away from the hand in a V instead of being pointed. From my experience by doing so most of the time the grain lines up perpendicular to the string. I took a pencil to show grain lines better. Also notice the bump on the nock, this is where my cock feather will go for indexing.

Now, I cut the arrows. Typically I use a pruner.

Re: Jamesh76 arrow build
Next, I taper both ends for nock and point. I like stain all the way down my arrows. Typically if you taper the point end after you stain, you get some white edges. I dont like that. I know at 29.5" bop, I am relatively close to spine when I tune. If I have to trim the a little and taper the point again I make sure to restain and seal the end.
