On the hunt for a New Target: Opinions wanted
Hellow friends.
As the thread title states, your opinions matter to me. I jave a few sheckels saved up and want to invest in a new target. Being budget-concious, im hoping to keep cost below $100 if possible. I also hope for broadhead and field point compatibility and longevity.
My local bow shop doesn't carry anything for less than $250 and my nearest Big Box Outfitters ( Cabella's, Bass Pro, etc)is a 2 hour drive away if traffic is good. Only Amazon will ship to me for free.
Dale (Graps) and George (50#draw) have expressed love for the Black Hole line of foam block targets the only actual positive reviews ive found for them. I respect the folks here enough to keep an eye on those targets even if they are the only people on the net who like them.
The other target I'm considering is the Yellow Jacket Six Shooter from Morrell. While it's easier for me to get from Amazon and about the same price as a big Black Hole (I can hit the broadside of a barn but tool sheds are 50/50 . I'm looking for something 20" plus), I'm having trouble finding any information on it at all. ive found one review Video that is just a go-pro of the guy's high performance wheelie gear followed by him pulling 4 arrows out of the target. One of said arrows has a Rage expandable practice tip that hardly mars the surface bit pulls some guts out. Even Morrell's website doesn't list it And no reviews on Amazon either. I like the idea of being able to shoot all 6 faces of the cube but hard to justify if nobody knows anything about them.
Option #3 is coughing up some real money for a Block Black, Invasion or Vault.
Wall of text over, give me your thoughts.

One final condition: it has to withstand my friend's 70 lb compound with broadheads and still be soft enough for our wives and my kids to shoot with their 25 lb recurves.

An option would be to build a sand box .
You make a 3 sided box that will hold sand and you can suspend like a water bottle cap in front of the opening for a target .
The sand will stop any arrow and is soft enough for the light weight setups as well .
Works great for broadheads too .
Sand is cheep , you can use play sand you can get from department stores or home improvement stores .
You could even sift dirt yourself to get rocks out .
Been going make one for myself but just haven't got around to getting it done

Thas a fantastic idea Graps, thanks! Certainly fits the budget too haha.
An update: I received a very short, curt reply from Morrell regarding the Six Shooter: it's a discontinued product (no info as to why) and as such would see no support from their end if I had an issue with it. They also suggested I look at the new Patriot, same target as the 6 in a different colour scheme but about twice the investment. And no free shipping.
Maybe Morrell isn't the way to go.

frankly...Dont waste your money on exspensive targets..Try and find compressed cedar bales or any type compressed bales.Another option is to make your own out of carpet remnants.Cut the carpet into squares the size you want then get them banded real tight. These ideas are for field points. My broadhead target of choice is the mckensie shot blocker.Works good and has good durability and was way below a hundred.

Also..Try and find big blocks of white foam or get the one inch sheets and glue ten or so together after you cut to size.I also made a wooden box and then sprayed the cans of spray foam into it and let it dry then busted the box off.Line the box with wax paper first.Worked great.

Oh, I like the foam idea. That stuff comes fairly cheap! and with me working in a car dealership, big boxes are Free and plentiful.
I looked into the shot blocker. I can find those at Canadian Tire, I overlooked it because It seems a bit small for eighty dollars.

Plus one on the old carpet trick. There are a few on Youtube. Most take an old box fill with old carpeting and ratchet strap it all down. Looks quite effective. The box is oK until you start shooting broadheads then it gets ripped up pretty fast.

I like the "rag bag" by third arm archery.. it can be gotten pretty reasonable thru amazon. It's a real tough "you stuff it" bag, best I've found for field points.
For broad heads I have a 4'x8'x12" sheet of styrofoam.. It was recovered along the river after the last high water...
