Best finish?
I'll be shooting wood arrows into straw bails. What's the best/easiest finish to use. Something that won't ware off too badly.. A spray on would be good.
Re: Best finish?
I use Spar Urethane by Varathane to finish my arrows. Works pretty good for the wet weather here in Oregon. Just make sure to use enough coats. And it's a spray on.

Re: Best finish?
I use multiple coats (3 for practice arrows and 5 for hunting arrows), with steel wool between each coat, of Helmsman Spar Urathane - works great.
Re: Best finish?
Good deal, I have some with Dalys Profin and have shot them just a few times into a hay bale and they are already showing wear. I'll try the spar urathane. Thanks..
Re: Best finish?
I use Cabots polycrylic, dries fast and is real durable and easy to use!

I dip with Raptor Finish about as convenient as it gets. No stink, no complaining from other household members.
I use it for hunting arrows too.

Re: Best finish?
Buckwheat are you letting the ProFin cure long enough? I have been using it for over a year and love the stuff. It is not a fast cure finish. I usually let it dry for at least 8hrs. before steel wooling the shaft and applying another coat. I will put 3 coats on my arrows.

Re: Best finish?
When spraying I use Minwax Polyurithane. When dipping I use Tung oil.

Re: Best finish?
Epoxy--by far the most durable I've ever used. I'll have to wait until I get home to post the recipie--in Jackson, MS right now for the NASP state championship.
Re: Best finish?
LBR, anxious to get the recipe.. I'm open to anything.. Good luck at the NASP..
