What's the best way to trim the quill shaft down so they lie flat on the arrow?
I do have a seldom-used belt sander.

You have to make some type of clamp to hold the feather in place. I first thin down a little with a sharp razor knife, careful not to force cut or you can lose one quick. Then you can hold flat and use belt sander. Sometimes I just sand them by hand.
