Try as I may I just can't find any of my fancy carbon arrows that outfly my crooked, knotty, and 750grain came arrows! If you spin tested them you would probaby throw them aside, but they are performers! Thanks Jason for turning me on to the woody weights, the extra weight up front brought new life to these arrows. I think they are wanting to hunt.
Test: Cane, Carbon Express 150 with 275gr up front, and 2 Gold Tip Heavy Hunters with 275gr on tip.
How can it be?

Re: How can it be?
Tony sometimes in times like this, ya just gotta quit scratching your head, and just go with it! Ive often "preached" to people who complain of woods inconsistencies, and tell them that they will fly straight, even if they aren't as straight as modern materials. I like mine as straight as I can get them by hand going through them fairly quick, but beyond that....its silly to beat yourself to death trying to get modern material straitness out of them. There is a limit, and straighter is good, but such as cane, spined and timed right, they fly to the bullseye...what else do we need?
Woody weights are nice aren't they? I couldnt shoot as I know it without them. Glad you found them agreeable!
Nice shootin dead eye!

Re: How can it be?
Gents, we've been shooting in the modern 'trad era' only since the Golden Age of Archery....beginning late 50's through today. Man has been killing larger-than-deer sized game for many, many centuries with handmade selfbows and arrows. Have you ever looked at any primitive arrows in a museum? One wonders how they could hit a mastodon in the buttocks at spitting distance, but they did, and more than once.
Those can arrows group just fine, Tony. And I'm sure they will do their job when duty calls.

Re: How can it be?
One of the reasons I don't get involved in a lot of posts..
I am not an equipment junkie.
I pick one of my bows to hunt with, grab a couple dozen arrows that are in my shop, shoot them at a target a whole bunch until I get those ones that always hit where I want them, put on my broadheads, and keep shooting until I have my 5 arrows that will ride in my quiver.
Sharpen them up and go hunting.
I put a lot more time in studying the animals, scouting, practicing my calls, and packing my meat-pack with knives, rope, and game bags than I do playing with my archery equipment.
But then, I only have wood arrows.
Cannot seem to want to buy new arrows when I have three 5 gallon buckets full of mixed dozens from my days when I collected bows.
Seems the bows I bought back then always came with arrows, and I preferred to buy similar weight bows (55-60lbs) so it works for me...

Re: How can it be?
I guess it's my bow building addiction that drives me but I am a bow junkie bad. I struggle to hunt more than one day at a time with the same bow. I got to get over this; I would be far better off if I could do what you do Michael, but unless the drive to build another one leaves me I don't see it happening.

Re: How can it be?
There is a place where both worlds combine.... Heavy animal study and heavy on the equipment study. No sense in skipping anything, right?

Amen Shadow; it's our diversity that keeps things interesting. I enjoy hearing the adventures of those who's world or thinking doesn't sound just right to me but it's how they do it.
