Sharpening the baddest broadhead on the planet!

#1 Post by AWPForester »

I have been experimenting on how to best sharpen a snuffer to get to hair popping sharp. I started using a belt sander and recieved some mixed replies about changing the temper of the steel and so forth on another site. So since then I bought 6 new ones and started again. It literally takes about 3 minutes to sharpen 6 broadheads to shaving and I mean quattro sharp. Here is what I posted on another site to possible help out those that was having as hard a time at getting it done as I was. And for the books, the head didn't get any hotter than warm.

"I know that a lot of you are probably getting tired of this but i simply have to share to try and keep some unknowning person from going through the hair pulling routine of sharpening the baddest broadhead on the planet.

As you know I started using a belt sander to bring the factory edges together and go from there. As Ryan stated last time the steel in my other snuffers must have been over hardened, and they most assuredly was when comparing them to this pack.

I hit each side about 1 to 1/2 seconds on the belt sander. Didn't even heat it up enough to make it uncomfortable to the touch. Pulled each one backwards on the diamond stone about 10 times per side, stropped 5 times per side. They are so sharp it isn't even funny. Takes longer to walk from the belt sander to my kitchen table then it does to get one this sharp. I could sharpen these six in less than 3 minutes to SHAVING sharp. If you are not doing this then you gotta give it a try.

The deer had better watch out cause these babies are sharp and everybody knows how awesome a snuffer head is. Good day and God Bless."

Hope this helps some one. Anyone who has ever sharpened to many of these thngs know that some of them can be a pain in the rearend to get shaving sharp. Not anymore. his is easier than tieing you shoe. Give it a try.

I'm with ya brother" Snuffers are the baddest". I shoot the 160 grains and they make a whopper of a hole. I have used the snuffer tamer for alot of years to do mine. Cheaper than buying a belt sander.lol

I agree with you buster, but in my case my dad actually give it to me so can't beat that. If it weren't for that I would have had a snuffer tamer last year because I was getting pretty irritated trying to sharpen them like the youtube video. Gotta use what you got.

I hear ya. If I had a belt sander I'd be trying your way. Is quicker than a tamer.
