Test driving a short bow

#1 Post by Longtrad »

I got a package in the mail today :) inside was a 50" 3 piece recurve! 47#@28, not sure what it equals out to at my 26ish draw but it sure feels smooth.

well turns out she does not like 27.5" 500 spine carbons with 300 grain tips. Arrow fish tails back and forth all the way to the target.

hmm think its too soft or too stiff?

Not sure about your arrow spine, but NICE BOW!
My K-Mag (52@28) seems to like my 50-55 woodies just fine at 29".

If the arrows are for your maddog, they are to weak, providing the test bow is cut near center.

Who makes it?

Im betting with your reduced draw, its maybe 43-45 lbs.

its a Crooked Stic made by Mike Miller, im not sure what he calls this bow model, anyone can test it out, just email him to get on the list, I think he said no draws over 28" though...

I cant wait to get home and try to sort an arrow out for it.

i'm guessing its cut to center and the strike plate material is real thin beaver tail i think. I really like how he cuts the shelf in there, I will take some closer pics of that when I get home.

I wonder if the limb lams are maple, or myrtle. Certainly has nice curl. Nice riser wood too.

I dont know what the red stripe or yellow accent woods are.

I like how the woods ended up showing in the grip, very cool stuff in my opinion.

shelf is cut different than most, looks neat.

here is the front of the grip, nice lines, unfortunately it doesn't fit my hand very well though.

200 grains on the 27.5" 500s resulted in clean arrow flight, a 430 grain arrow. I am impressed with this little bow, the draw is nice and smooth, and it puts the arrow right where you look, even just going in and out of my back door I started to appreciated the maneuverability a short bow brings to the table. I didnt have an awful lot of light for shooting by the time I got the arrow figured out but so far so good.

What do you fellers think about short bows?

I really like my K-Mag. You are spot-on about the maneuverability.

Is this the one they were passing around on TG?

Nice looking bow for sure. I like a short bow for the blind or treestand with rails. But they do tend to magnify my many shooting flaws. I'll think I'm doing good for a while then blow up again. I'm just a longbow lover I guess, takes all kinds. But on the other hand, Everyone ought to have at least one good short hunting bow.
