Removing inserts
I want to play around with my FOC and was looking at brass point inserts. Can the aluminum inserts be removed from corbon arrows?

Re: Removing inserts
It sort of depends on the adhesive used, Garret. Most(and I use that term in a very broad sense) inserts (if installed using one of the specialized insert adhesives made for arrows) can be removed by warming the insert itself....screw in a long screw with the same thread and heat the screw and insert end using a heat gun or torch, but BE CAREFUL TO STAY OFF THE CARBON SHAFT! When heated, clamp the screw head in a bench vise if you have one, then twist and pull. If they used some sort of structural adhesive or epoxy, all bets are off.
Aim small, miss small!
Re: Removing inserts
Some people epoxy or superglue the inserts in. If you have some like that you can sometimes bust them loose by putting a drill bit inside the shaft and then swinging it so drill bit will slam into the insert. After you do that somewhere between 10-100000 times the insert will either pop out or sometimes the glue holds too good and the shaft will be damaged.
If you are doing them yourself I would recommend using a good low temp hot melt.
This stuff is sold by a few different archery vendors, i think its made by techbond?

Okay, that's at least a ray of hope. I'll give both of those ideas a try. I was afraid I would hae to spring for some shafts.

Re: Removing inserts
Good luck Garret, hope it works out for you, new shafts are so darn high.
The element of surprise can never be replaced by persistence.
Re: Removing inserts
Well the drill bit technique worked great, took more then 10 but well under 10,000. Thanks. I tried that way vs. the heat a screw way first because I was to lazy to go to the hardware store. Let the fun begin, I love experimenting.
Re: Removing inserts
Never had heard of that one actually but glad it worked out for you.
