Quivers for hunting, non-bow-mounted?

Resurrecting this thread because I'm definitely at the point of needing a quiver, post-haste.

I suppose, after much reading/research, that a bow mounted quiver is the best way to go. I'm trying to choose from among all the models out there - and none of them are terribly cheap. (And never seem to come up for sale used @ ArcheryTalk.)

I've never had any issues with a bow mounted quiver (other than noise, which is fixable). I would suggest looking at some of the quivers from Selway (one of our sponsors, see the header on the forum home page)

I hate to put you back in limbo, but have you checked out G. Fred Asbel's quiver? It can be arranged a number of ways to suit you...not cheap though. I'm considering one anyway.

For a bow mount, if you are using 2 blade heads, Eagles Flight Archery has a 3 arrow Mesa. I have one of them, and one of his Chief quiver. I prefer the mesa, but the Chief will hold about any head. I prefer them personally over the much heavier Selway.

I would get one that has a bar that connects the hood and gripper, mine doesn't have one and it annoys the heck out of me.

I have a bow mount from selway, got it from 3Rivers and it was a seconds quiver, so a little cheaper because something is off on the finish of the leather.....otherwise its mounted solid and hasn't really added any weight thats noticeable to the bow. But I wont know how it is during hunting until the fall. I do practice with it on the bow, its the 5 arrow

Yes, I like it better too. He calls it a totem. I also really like the kick back option. It's so much more handy and comfortable.

I prefer a side quiver mainly because I shoot better without a bow quiver mounted on my bow. I also make them so I know I can always get what I want. They can be a pain, though, if you're having to walk very far through brush.

Id considered the side carry quivers like GFA, and Great Northern...the problem is, I'm already carrying a Summit climber on my back with all my garb. Somehow strapping another item to my shoulder or waist just doesn't compute. I dont have much choice at present but to use the climber. It's getting so the sit n climbs are my easiest option other then ground hunting. Even ground hunting I gotta pack a nice comfy chair, like my G 100. It just makes since to use a bow quiver for the situations I encounter. Id like to use a side carry with my Toelke as its perfect as is. I do like a light quiver on my maddogs though, for added stability.....they actually shoot better with a light bow quiver on. I'm just gonna have to put up with a bow quiver though on the Whip, too much of a pain in the kester otherwise

Well you saw my high tech bow quiver on page one along with my climbing stand mounted quiver. So now for some of my fancy back quivers. On the left you have a piece of PVC pipe I cut and covered with tape. Then made a side cut out to slide arrows out by just backing them up a little while it hangs to my side. Not a good explanation but serves me well. And oh yes, stuck an old sling on it. The one on the right is something I picked up second handed for $5, it's too shallow for use hunting but works well while target practicing.
