Just a post on my season so far. Hunted opening Sat afternoon had doe two fawns come by wouldn't shoot them. Later had a small buck come by and couldn't get him to pose? Wouldn't stop walking through, if I'd been paying attention and seen him coming maybe been better but didn't fell comfy with the shots presented? No go.
The excitement of the first day was walking up on a big bear on the way out in the dark my coronary arteries are cleaned out I tell ya. Him whopping jaws and making the gutteral grunt growl crashing away was enough to get the blood flowing. Knew there was a big bear in the area tracks all over, friends sighting him, and the fact the fields have corn in them. When the fields area corn the Bears will be out in force.
Second day another evening, Monday, saw a big buck! Not sure exactly how many points? He was about 80yards out and passed right through where I came in, not good. Cut my track! Never spooked just went back way he came. Small buck no shot though, another doe and then two does with a fawn. One doe posed and I don't think it was the momma BUT passed. Then a good sized sow 275/300 came by right at day with two cubs. Ten yards from my set. After Sats experience I stayed in the tree well after dark making sure momma and her cubs had moved on.
Last two sits Friday and Sat nothing? Either the jig is up and they know I am around or the warm weather has them moving late. Most of the deer activity including that big buck was around 1730??
It will be a week before I get to go again due to work and travel. Well got one day tomorrow but I got to go try and get some fish too (wife's orders) so loading up the ocean kayak today wit gear for early morning run tomorrow.
Have not killed one yet but just one first two days have made for an awesome season already!
Cheers everyone, hope y'all's seasons

Excellent Jason! Sounds like a great few days!
I know what you mean on the big bucks reaction to your scent trail, I've seen it many times. It doesnt appear as if they spook, but in their way its how they spook. The end result unfortunately is the exact same as if he had went crashing through the timber. Big older bucks dont like drawing attention to themselves, and even when ive had them get 15 yards straight down wind with me on the ground, they almost always freeze up half crouched for a while and starring right my way, then eventually slip off tip toe'ing as quiet as a mouse and low to the ground. Rarely do I see big old bucks react by crashing timber, running off flagging high, snorting raising hell like younger bucks or doe will do. They just quietly sneak away, and in many cases the hunter does not even know it.

The element of surprise can never be replaced by persistence.
