Recurve build
Hey everyone, been awhile since I've posted. Life's been pretty busy lately. Kids, work, etc, etc.
Anyways, been working on a recurve for my son, my first. The inspiration was a mix between a Kodiak magnum and a Kodiak Hunter, only in a 56" variation.
The form took quite awhile to get dialed in, has to be absolutely straight and square along the entire length. Easier said than done, let me tell you!
The riser block i sandwiched green futurewood with g-10 to allow cutting the shelf 3/16" past center, Hoping it makes tuning some light spined arrows easier; and to really reinforce the riser.
Went with action-boo cores, @ .001 per inch taper; and 2 layers of stabil-kore to help torsional stability. Green glass is .043 uls glass.
Got it glued up and rough shaped. Tiller is almost spot on. Looks like it'll take a 50.5" string right now. Might end up cutting it down to a 54" or 52" bow, got lots of curve in contact with the string. Still gotta get it on the tillering rack to see how the dynamic tiller looks.

Re: Recurve build
Thanks for posting this Chris, I'm planning on doing something similar for my grandkids.
Just curious. What is your son's age and what draw weight are you trying for? and draw length?

This is Awesome! Dang....virtually everyone here has either built bows in the past, are building bows still, or are going to build bows! I'm getting to be in the minority in not building bows here...
The element of surprise can never be replaced by persistence.

He draws about 21", was shooting for 30lb @ 28" for him. It's quite the process. One key thing is being able to sand material dead flat and dead on 90°. I'm using a cheap home depot edge/ spindle sander. Absolutely required for laminated bow building

Looking good, thanks for sharing.

Nice work! Love the color too...
I'm also in the minority here not building bows. I admire you guys that have jumped in with both feet.

Well, looks like it's a big fat goose egg. Looks like the fade out busted and slipped under the glass when it was under pressure I guess. Not going to be shot like that. Guess I've got a nice looking paperweight. Dang it!

I know it's a bummer, Chris...Tradman (Larry) has been going through the same sort of teething pains, but...that's how you get to be a master bowyer...trial & error. Keep at it. The bow looks great. If Edison had quit after his first light bulb we'd still be using lanterns.
