I really think it would just come down to a personal preference, and how much you want to spend. Either one would work well. I’ve only shot the Jag once. I had a friend that really liked his. Usually though...people use their bow fishing rig as a beater bow. I wouldn’t want to put time in a Frankenbow then throw it in back of a truck,or watch it bounce around it the boat but that’s just me. If I could get a good deal on a used bow that would suit my needs I’d go with it.Shadowhntr wrote: ↑Thu Apr 26, 2018 3:15 pm How would you compare your frankenbows to a Martin Jaguar? I've been thinking about a Jaguar or something similar in 50-55 lb @28" for bowfishing with my AMS set up.

Re: Frankenbows
Yeah I get your meaning and totally understand. I'm different then most bowfishermen though...I refuse to allow my bow to take abuse of any kind. Of course accidents happen and I could stumble and fall with it. But I do try to keep from beating it up. I'm wanting to use an elevated rest, and up my normal poundage to help tune out and aliviate fishing arrow flight problems I'm having. I'm not a hard core bowfisherman, it's simply pleasure and meat for me. I target mainly Buffalo Fish and they are scrumptious.....cant hit anything with a sideways arrow slapping the water and jutting at an angle away from the fish. I guess if this don't work I guess im gonna have to go buy a cheap compound to use.... I refuse to go back to the drum spools I use to use and I'm keeping the saftey slide. I've seen some scarry stuff happen otherwise. Anyway...my longbows off the shelf nor my recurves are working worth a darn with the AMS system. I really think an adjustable elevated rest would help me tune it out, alobg with a higher poundage bow. Thats what caught my eye with these frankens and was it warfs?
The element of surprise can never be replaced by persistence.

Jason, I think you’re on the right track with the compound thing. If you could get a Black Bear or Black Panther at a pawn shop and use it for awhile you’d have the riser when you run across some limbs, if you want to change it over at a later date. If you’re going to up your normal poundage ...The let off on a compound would be a big help. And really you could go higher than 50# or so if you wanted to because of the let off. I would rather use a compound for bowfishing anyhow, I’m clumsy, and being able to hold at anchor for a few more seconds balancing in a boat helps me! LOL

Probably not the best picture, but here is my Bear Black Bear riser with 50lb Sage limbs, Selway (I think) quiver, and home made original paintings job. I was struggling with this bow a while back, and as you can see, I tried out a sight on it. I actually shot it last weekend for the first time in over a year.

Re: Frankenbows
I wanted to mention that most of the risers I’ve changed over has an alignment tab or nub at the base of the limb pocket that has to come out. Also I remove about 1/6 from the base of the pocket, so the limbs will fit without sanding the bottom of the limbs. It’s not hard to dowith a Dremmel and deburr bit, and saves modifying the limb butt in case you want to trade or sell limbs later.
