What did you see in the woods, today?
OK......lets try and get some more interest and frequent posting going on. Borrowed this post idea from another site, lets see if it works here.
This post is NOT just for the successful kills-----already another post for that. This is for those who jsut want to share what they saw each day out.....
I'll go first:
This morning was WINDY!!!!!! Sat in my ladder stand in a nice bushy Maple tree on my property. No deer movement but heard turkeys cackling on my ridge-top. Several psycho squirrels scrambling around---jumping out of their skin and giving the wind a good scolding every time a small branch dropped... Sat for about 3 hours...then decided to head for cover......I know, I'm a wimp when the wind gusts hit 35-40 mph!!

Saw some nice mulies but no elk. Guess I'll be turning to hunting whitetail now. The fall colors were brilliant in between the fog rolling in and out.

Re: What did you see in the woods, today?
Jeff and I were out cutting and splitting firewood the last couple of days. Needless to say we scared off all of the game, but at least we'll be warm next month when returning to the cabin. A lot of activity around here and the weather is cooling off fast. I'm thinking rut early November, right before rifle season.
Dave and Jeff are both coming back next weekend to cut more wood. I told them I'd have a deer in the freezer before they got here. When you start bragging to your boys about it, now it's kinda like work, better get her done. I'm sure glad I've got this week off. I'll field dress it and hang it in the shed and tell them I'd of put it in the freezer but they needed more experience Think I'll let them boys skin it. What's a dad for? Showin the kids how to do it, and they love every minute of it.
I keep telling them, This is what we call quality time. I sure was fortunate to have such fine kids.
And Melanie is a work of art. Yes, life is good.
Hopefully I'll post later in the week on the harvest thread.

Re: What did you see in the woods, today?
Sat for a couple hours in my ground blind hoping to see some turkeys ...no sightings , but they were there. Heard them cackling and whistling after sunrise.
Had 4 squirrels hopping around and 4 deer also came in close (3-5 yds!).....Waited them out since I don't want to spook 'em out yet. My daughter is wanting to sit with me and I want to make sure they keep coming in for while yet........

10/25:
FAT little button buck walked right under my stand.
Couple minutes later, a spike walked behind me and up jumbed a nice doe from her bed. She came up past me but out of range and into the brush. Squirrels out gathering leaves and bark to insulate their nests---I guess a couple light frosts get s them worried about upcoming winter...

10/25 Had a small 8 pt come up to 6 yards and eat for 20 minutes, where was he last weekend when my grandson was hunting with me?
Re: What did you see in the woods, today?
Set up on the edge of a field where we been seeing lots of deer, set up downwind in some high grass and was waiting for dusk, about 5:00 PM the wind picks up and a rain squall comes thru rains steady for 10min then the sun comesout! A Rainbow comes out that starts on one side of the field to the other all it needed was Lepruchaun and a pot of gold but I got neither just wet!
