Today was the WINDIEST day I have ever sat in a treestand!!!

Finally decided to brave it even though the weather people were saying gusts up to 45 mph and steady winds in the 25-30....... Was second guessing my decision after getting up and strapped in around 4:30--but I figured if the tree stood there this long.....

After about 45 minutes a coyote came trotting in on my left and zig-zagged around in the weeds behind me for about 5 minutes--looking for supper too, I guess....

After he left, I noticed a large doe browsing behind me but she eventually wandered off....a yearling doe came racing straight in to me and just stood there at about 10 yds, again on my left ( I'm a lefty and sitting..feeling kinda exposed and the wind is REALLY blowing now).....

She leaves, another doe walks across the hillside behind me and away......

Then, the yearling suddenly appears again, starts browsing around a large walnut tree, again to me left. Finally I decide this sitting thing is not going to work....I slowly stand and start to stand when I realize, she's standing still, but I'm hearing footsteps! Dang it!! Another large doe is on my right and sees something she doesn't like, but can't quite make it out...she never snorts or panics, but walks around gawking up at me into the sun as well.....

The yearling is getting curious and starts walking in fron of me and crosses over to my right.... YES!!! ....after 2 yrs of not getting an archery deer---this is finally "blowing my way"

she is mesmerized by the doe dancing behind me.....I draw the smooth 54# MOAB, locked on my spot, and sent the 570 gr. Stinger-tipped arrow into the "sweet spot"........about 2 seconds later, and within site, she dropped, kicked, and rolled over....DEAD! THEN I started shaking like a leaf in 45 mph winds!!! I waited 5 min. and climbed down. Waited another 10 and went to find my arrow (what's left of it) and then my deer......knelt for a quick prayer of thanks and started the fun work!!!

Killed this yesterday. My first trad kill. 5 yards walking broadside. I was 18-20 feet up. This was cool! :D

John, here is a picture of the entry wound made with the Big Game Head (Right Bevel) I hit the shoulder on the opposite side so no exit wound. This made an easy to follow blood trail and she went about 75 yards max and died very quickly. Would have been a crazy big blood trail had the head poked out the other side.
I do really like my Predator camo and the ones I'm wearing in the photo are probably 8 years old. I love old worn camos as they are always really quiet and the color always seems better once they have faded a bit.

Here's my first for the year. I used a 50#, at my draw Shrew CH, douglas fir shafts and a 160 grain WW Elite. Shot from a 17 ft. ladder stand. I got complete penetration but not quite a pass through. I found the broadhead and most of the shaft about 15 yards down the blood trail and the fletched end from nock to the end of my wrap was inside the buck. I saw him go down about 50 yards from my stand.

Well, The Lord's blessings just never cease to amaze me. Last year to the day, I was laying in a hospital bed with death a very real possibility. But through the graces and mercy of the Lord I am alive, getting better and living my dreams again.
So this morning I went hunting with my good bud Larry Altizer. I had this doe come in at 9 AM. I shot her in the neck as she looked up at me face on. The arrow buried to the nock traveling through the boiler room and she went DOWN! Zero tracking yards.

She was walking up to this fence crossing I was setting over when I attempted my draw. My bow string rubbed the cushion on the front bar as I was drawing and she just froze and started looking real hard at the base of my tree. There I was about 1/3 way drawn and she was boobing that head and ducking it trying to find the source of the nosie. Since I wasn't very high I decide I was going to draw out and drop the string.

I continued on and I hit anchor and cut drive, I was aware that she looked up as I hit anchor but it was too late for her. 12 yards away face on. Praise the Lord!
