Making wood shafting

#1 Post by scaler »

Anyone out there making their own wood shafts? I tried the veritas dowel maker, it worked good but requires alot of sanding to get the proper diameter you need. Thinking of trying to get the dowel maker rockler sells and the insert for making 11/32 arrows. Has anyone out there tried it or heard any feedback? I really enjoy making and shooting wood arrows, and nothing is better than waxing someone using carbon! I do on occasion use carbon as well, but my #1 choice is wood because you can do so much with it.

I have made some but only using dowel rods LOL. I have made a few from sticks I cut, and several from cane, so sorry but can't help you with your question.

Well I am going to get at it again with some POC shafts I have. I am looking to buy the dowel maker and adapter for 11/32 arrows soon. Somthing about trying to do it all yourself that makes it fun and enjoyable all year long.

Nice, do you have any instructions on how to make it? What bit is in your router? Do you have to chuck up the blank and have it spinning while you run it through the router? Very curious, as I like to make my own stuff as much as possible, adds greatly to the enjoyment!

Thanks

I didn't "make" the shafts, but these are cheap 5/16" poplar dowels I use for kids arrows. Some require a lot of straightening but they turn out great......and they're cheap.

Awesome jig setup BTW.
My range finder, release, and sights are the ones God gave me.
