I almost didn't post these to the site, but we need something to talk about. So lets hear something about these.

Nice bows James. Is the fluorescent string so you don't loose the bow? Maybe you will find a nice straight stave to work with one of these days.

I have some straight staves. Actually I think I have 5 osage staves on my Rack which probably wont need any correction for alignment, they just aren't dry yet. These are just staves I salvaged from a tree cut on my friends place when they put in a fence. It was actually a live tree, but the dozer hit it and nocked it on its side. Ya never really know what ya get into with osage when you cut them until they are split and debarked. I enjoy these curved ones, they make just as good of a bow as a straight stave. Just a little more work involved. Tillering can be tricky when you have a bumpy back or humps. With the snakey bows, once you get the tips and handle aligned, it makes no difference what the limb does tillering is the same, looking from the side as you tiller you cannot tell the bow is snakey. The green one was tricky, I think it was a belly split from another stave. It is bumpy, has some knots and snake. The right side was difficult with the bumps on the back. I got it as close as I could. It looks a little stiff in spots, you can even see the island on the belly where it has a stiff area. Overall, its ok a decent tiller. It got a little thin in the inner limb, the tiller profile should have been a little closet to the brown handle one. I'm still learning. GREG AND JERRY PAY ATTENTION HERE!!!!!!!! The biggest/hardest thing for me is tillering to your profile. I tend to get caught up in "bendy handle circular tiller thru handle" but this is not the case. The only true circular tiller is a pyramid bow. A lot of people use the tillering gizmo, which is a great tool. however, it has its advantages and can be used as a reference on builds or you can use a straight edge torpedo ruler and mark where you gap increases or decreases when you check tillering at a draw length. From what I am learning, it seems that when you lay out your bow, your parallel sections will be a elliptical tiller, once your profile begins to taper this is where your tiller starts to become more circular.

Hopefully I will get more practice soon. Ya gotta love those snaky ones.
