Osage rabbit and rehab bow complete

#1 Post by Jamesh76 »

Well, with all my elbow issues I felt I may have to rehab some to get back to where I was so I made a lighter weight Osage rabbit/recovery now. Osage 66” amo 1.25 wide to mid lim tapering to 1/2” nocks. Typically I go with narrow nocks but on one end I had a cluster of 3-4 pin knots as well as a few others all through the limb and some close to the edge. The bow ended 35# at 28. May loose just a little weight as it gets shot in. There was no noticeable set in the limbs I left a couple spots slightly stiff due to the knots. Rosewood tip overlays as I have a linear crack in the limbs and didn’t want my string nocks cut too close to the crack. It is about 1 ring thick. I already chased it down 1 ring before laying the bow out but I was afraid if I went 1 more ring the bow may come out too light. Sealed with bullseye shellac. Matching leather grip, rest and strike plate. First time trying to contour it to the grip. Next time I need to feather the top down we laying edge but it’s not bad. Maroon/black puff balls to match the rosewood and a all black b50 string, black serving and sinew nocking point.

Looks good James!

Did you get a chance to shoot it or is your elbow not there yet?

. I tried, puts too much pressure on my holding arm elbow right now. I’ll see if my son can shoot it in. I went ahead and sealed it may or may not have to revisit tiller after it’s shot in 50/50.

another beautiful bow. you are truly learning about wood and how to make it work. The sheer number of the bows that you have made has helped you to become a much better bow builder. You have gained knowledge in tiller that only comes from hands on and great advice from other bowyers. Those that are willing to give bow building a try, you can definitely give solid advice. Your help has benefitted Greg and myself. If any of you decide to give it a try, James can and will help you. Thanks James, my friend, Jerry
